Mathias Mpuuga Nsamba, the Democratic Front-DP party President General, has been nominated to seek re-election as Member of Parliament for Nyendo-Mukungwe division in Masaka City.
After his due nomination on Wednesday afternoon, Mpuuga promised to invoke his capabilities and experience to reinvent the aspirations of many Ugandans who are yearning for political change in the country.
“Together with my colleagues, we are going to get back to our people within and beyond the Masaka sub region, to speak to them about their aspirations and challenges they confront every day. We want to rethink anew how best we can deliver service to them,” he noted.
In Masaka City, two more candidates on the DF ticket were also nominated for the next general elections. They are Doctor Abed Bwanika, the incumbent MP for Kimanya-Kabonera division and Juliet Kakande Nakabuye, the City Woman MP who both recently crossed from the National Unity Platform.
They currently serve as the DF Treasurer General and National Women’s League leader, respectively.
Mpuuga promised that, with the leadership of the DF, their efforts in the next term of office will be focused on ensuring that they offer better and reliable leadership in the country’s opposition politics.
‘We are on a new journey that intends to deliver meaningful and well thought-out political transition, other than performing a ritual grandstanding that latterly cannot achieve the aspirations of our people,” he says.
On the other hand, Mpuuga urged the electorates in Masaka to be tolerant and listen to all candidates who are asking to be elected in the area, but be courageous enough to interrogate them about their agendas and plans.
Juliet Kakande Nakabuye, the Masaka City Woman MP, indicated that in the current term of office, they registered various accomplishments both at the constituency level and in parliament.
He highlighted the multibillion shillings project for the reconstruction of Masaka Recreation Grounds, installation of new streetlights, tarmacking of various roads and paving of shopping lanes in the City, projects she says were lobbied out of their efforts as area MPs.
Besides the DF candidates, the Electoral Commission nominated six other candidates who are also aspiring for parliamentary position to represent Masaka.
The other are Lubowa Ssebina Gyaviira of the National Unity Platform-NUP, Rachael Nakitende-NRM for Nyendo-Mukungwe division. Patrick Kuteesa-NUP and Robert Asiimwe-NRM MP candidates in Kimanya-Kabonera city division, and Rose Nalubowa-NUP and Sauya Nanyonga-independent who aspire for Masaka City Woman MP seat.
