Nine candidates have been nominated by the Electoral Commission of Uganda to contest for parliamentary positions in Masaka City ahead of the 2026 general elections.
The nominations cover the position of Woman Member of Parliament for Masaka City and the two city divisions of Nyendo–Mukungwe and Kimaanya–Kabonera. Notably, the Democratic Party (DP), historically dominant in the region, has no nominee in this race.
The City Returning Officer, Ahmed Musisi Nadduli, declared the following candidates duly nominated:
- Nyendo–Mukungwe Division: Racheal Nakitende (National Resistance Movement – NRM), Gyaviira Ssebina (National Unity Platform – NUP), and Mathias Mpuuga (Democratic Front – DF).
- Kimaanya–Kabonera Division: Patrick Kuteesa (NUP), Robert Asiimwe (NRM), and Abed Bwanika (DF).
- Woman MP, Masaka City: Rose Nalubowa (NUP), Sauya Nanyonga (Independent), and Juliet Kakande Nakabuye (DF).
Nadduli described the nomination exercise as peaceful, commending both the candidates and their political parties for maintaining discipline throughout the process.
Speaking after his nomination, Abed Bwanika said DF had successfully fielded candidates for all levels of leadership and called on voters to trust their new political direction.
“Masaka has always been a catalyst for political change in Uganda. We ask voters to choose carefully and entrust us with the mandate to lead this transformation,” Bwanika said.
DF party president Mathias Mpuuga noted that the party deliberately chose to be nominated early to allow its leadership to traverse the country supporting other aspirants.
“We want voters to listen to every candidate who approaches them, but to be extra careful in deciding who will represent them in Parliament. DF offers a fresh approach to leadership and inclusive participation,” Mpuuga emphasized.

Meanwhile, candidates from NRM and NUP pledged to uphold their party manifestos, promising to deliver tangible services if elected.
The nomination exercise is part of the roadmap leading to the 2026 general elections.
