President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has commended the Catholic Church for its significant contribution to shaping the moral fabric of Uganda through its schools, institutions, and community outreach programs.
In a message delivered by Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja Musafiri during celebrations to mark the anniversary of Narozari Parish in Masaka Diocese, President Museveni praised the Church for nurturing children into responsible and God-fearing citizens.
The parish, established in 1900 by the White Fathers led by Pere Gracy Felix—the first parish priest—together with Pere Pierre Baurucel and Brother Raphael Brokelling Herman, has played a key role in spreading both faith and education in the region since the Buganda Agreement era.

Museveni noted that the Catholic Church’s teachings go beyond spiritual guidance, extending into moral and social transformation.
“The Church trains a person in all aspects of life—morals, values, and respect for others. These are the foundations that have helped to build a disciplined and God-fearing society,” the President said in his message.
He further applauded the Church for encouraging hard work and self-reliance, emphasizing that faith must be accompanied by productive effort to fight poverty.
Citing the biblical example of Joseph the carpenter, Museveni said Christians should emulate the model of diligence and contribution to community development.

“Joseph was not a passive bystander in the development process of his society. He worked alongside his son Jesus to improve both the spiritual and socio-economic wellbeing of his people. This is the example every Christian should follow,” he stated.
The President underscored that development benefits all people regardless of religion, tribe, or background.
“There is no religion or tribe that does not want good roads, hospitals, or schools. It is in everyone’s interest that Uganda continues to move towards modernity, development, and political stability,” he added, urging Christians and religious leaders to remain agents of positive change in their communities.
Museveni called upon clergy not to limit their ministry to the spiritual realm but to actively mobilize believers to participate in government programs aimed at eradicating poverty at the household level.
He cited initiatives such as the Parish Development Model (PDM) and the Wealth Creation Programme, which focus on transforming livelihoods through commercial agriculture, industry, services, and ICT.
“The NRM government has laid a strong foundation for socio-economic transformation by securing the country and investing in infrastructure such as roads, hospitals, schools, and energy projects,” he said. “However, these advantages must translate into jobs and wealth for households if our development is to be meaningful.”

The President concluded by congratulating Narozari Parish and the Bishop of Masaka Diocese for their steadfast service and growth since the parish’s humble beginnings more than a century ago.
“This is a moment to reflect on how far God has brought us and to look forward to greater achievements ahead. I wish to congratulate the leadership and faithful of Narozari Parish for their successful endeavors,” Museveni said.
