Buddu County Chief, Pokino Jude Muleke, has urged journalists reporting from the county to diversify their sources of income instead of relying solely on monthly salaries.
He said that while a salary is important, it is often insufficient to support long-term financial stability, especially when planning for children and retirement.
Pokino emphasized that the time has come for journalists to embrace agriculture and animal husbandry as viable ventures that can significantly boost their earnings. He noted that farming can be highly profitable when one has clear objectives and is committed to the work.
He expressed concern over the increasing cases of journalists resorting to social media to solicit funds for medical treatment, family support, or their children’s needs.
He said such situations are regrettable, especially for professionals who spend their careers informing and educating the public, yet struggle financially when challenges arise. He urged them to begin planning for their future and avoid falling into this cycle.
Pokino also encouraged journalists to shift their mindset by creating time for personal development while continuing to serve the public.
He applauded those who have made remarkable progress—such as pursuing further education and establishing stable families—and urged them to continue strengthening their achievements.
He stressed that advancing one’s education not only improves the accuracy of reporting but also enhances one’s contribution to community development.
He advised journalists to prioritize proper planning despite their modest salaries and called for unity among practitioners. He said development can only be achieved if journalists work together, avoid divisions, and stop maligning one another.
Pokino made the remarks during a meeting with journalists working in Buddu County at the county headquarters. The meeting was organized to appreciate their contribution to the county’s progress.
Journalists, led by Maria Ssebuwuufu, thanked Pokino for consistently engaging with them. They noted that his encouragement motivates them, helps them refocus, and strengthens their commitment to their work.
