Verdict: Manipulated Photo
A photo circulating on social media claims that Nyendo Mukungwa Member of Parliament and Democratic Front Party President Mathias Mpuuga met President Yoweri Museveni, who is currently campaigning in Greater Masaka.
The manipulated image has been widely shared on TikTok and X (formerly Twitter), with claims that Speaker of Parliament Anita Among convened a meeting between Mpuuga and Museveni at the State Lodge in Masaka City.
Political figures and public personalities have circulated the doctored photo, either knowingly or unknowingly, to push a misleading narrative. Even celebrated journalistsv have been circulating the photo.
Uganda Wired conducted a simple analysis and found that the viral image was created by combining two separate photos. One of the original photos shows Mpuuga, Medard Lubega Sseggona of Busiro East, and the Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, in a meeting at Bulange, Mengo, on April 3, 2024.
The Democratic Front confirmed the date and context of the original photo through its social media platforms. The party urged Ugandans to reject the propaganda and told detractors to focus on real issues rather than spreading lies.
Another manipulated image was that of President Museveni alongside former Speaker Rebecca Kadaga and current Speaker Anita Among. Simple reverse image checks indicate the photo was taken on the day NRM voted for NEC members in August 2025.
Fact-checks confirm the image are not evidence of meetings between Museveni and Mpuuga.
