Police in Mukono have taken a prime suspect into custody following the killing of a senior university administrator, as detectives intensify investigations into the case.
The victim, identified as Tumwebaze Pamela, served as Director of Student Affairs at Uganda Christian University.
Authorities say she was allegedly strangled inside her residence in Guafu West Village, Seeta Ward, Goma Division, during the early hours of February 11, 2026.
Speaking on the ongoing investigation, Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Recheal Kawala confirmed that officers are piecing together evidence surrounding the suspected break-in and killing.
Early accounts suggest a housemaid encountered an unidentified man inside a bedroom at around 2:00am.
The intruder was reportedly dressed in clothing believed to belong to the deceased and fled the home carrying a laptop bag.
Alarmed, the maid and children in the household checked on Pamela and discovered her lying motionless. She was rushed to Namirembe Church of Uganda Hospital, where medical staff pronounced her dead on arrival.
Police say specialized teams were swiftly deployed to gather forensic evidence, reconstruct the sequence of events, and track potential suspects.
Authorities have since confirmed that a coordinated security operation led to the arrest of a key individual believed to be connected to the crime.
In a statement shared on X, Tom Magambo noted that the suspect was apprehended during a joint operation involving police and the Joint Anti-Terrorism Taskforce.
Investigators caution that inquiries remain active, and a detailed report, including the suspect’s identity and possible motive, will be released once verification is complete.
