A Ugandan National has been injured and others stranded following the retaliatory attacks launched by Iran on the United Arab Emirates targeting USA military bases, the Ministry of Defense has said .
On Saturday, Israel and the United States of America launched a series of attacks on Iran. During the attacks of Iran’s supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and several commanders were killed .
As result , Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps ( IRGC) and other forces launched retaliatory attacks on Israel and US military bases spread in the Middle East.
Among the bases targeted are those located in the United Arab Emirates.
According to the statement released by Ministry of Defense for the United Arab Emirates on Sunday , 165 ballistic missiles, two cruise missiles and 541 drone attacks have been launched towards the nation by Iran since Saturday.
The statement indicated that on Sunday, the UAE air and defence forces destroyed 20 ballistic missiles, while eight missiles fell into the sea. They also destroyed two cruise missiles and 311 drones.
During the attacks , 21 drones struck civilian targets.
The attacks resulted in three fatalities of Pakistani, Nepali and Bangladeshi nationalities.
The Ministry further said that during the attacks , 58 people sustained minors injuries among them including a Ugandan and other nationals from Egypt, Ethiopia, Philippines, Pakistan, Iran, India, Bangladeshi, Sri Lanka, Azerbaijani, Yemen and Eritrea among others .
The Ministry further said that 541 Iranian drones were detected, of which 506 were intercepted and destroyed, while 35 fell within the country, causing material damage.
The ministry indicated that some debris fell in various areas of the country as a result of air defence systems intercepting ballistic missiles and drones, leading to minor to moderate material damage to a number of civilian properties.
Among the affected property include airports ,hotels and residential homes.
As the Iran attacks escalated on Monday, several Ugandans remained stranded in the UAE after flights were suspended following damage to airports and other infrastructure.
Many Ugandans have since shared videos on X and Tiktok indicating that they are stuck in hotels after the flights were suspended over the attacks.
On Saturday, the Permanent Secretary of Uganda’s Foreign Affairs Ministry Vincent Bagiire issued a statement saying that the Ministry is monitoring situations in the Middle East and advised Ugandans to suspend flights to the countries until further notice .
Bagiire advised the Ugandans living in Iran to take serious precautions for their safety and leave Iran if possible.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi told Al Jazeera on Sunday that the assassination of Supreme leader Khamenei, was a “very dangerous and unprecedented” move, stressing that Iran is bound by no limits in defending itself.
Araghchi insisted that they will continue to hit USA bases in the Middle East despite ongoing condemnation from several countries.
He however noted that the attacks are not an aggression towards their brotherly nations in Middle East.
On Monday explosions were heard in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates.
A half dozen bangs were also heard in Doha, the capital of neighbouring Qatar.
Bahrain’s Ministry of Interior says it has activated air raid alerts and urged residents to head to the nearest safe place.
US President Donald Trump has since warned Iran that they will be hit harder if they don’t surrender . So far three US service men have been killed and five injured in Iran attacks
