A 47-year-old enforcement officer, Francis Mpalanyi, is in critical condition at Mulago National Referral Hospital after being severely injured when a roof he was dismantling collapsed on him.
The incident occurred in Gunga Village, within Mukono town, as municipal enforcement teams carried out operations targeting kiosks and stalls operating without authorization.
Eyewitnesses reported that Mpalanyi was pulling down a roof when it unexpectedly gave way, striking him on the head and causing deep wounds that reached the skull.
He was initially rushed to Mukono General Hospital, but medical personnel deemed the injuries too severe for local treatment. He was therefore referred to Mulago for specialized care.
At the time of reporting, Mukono Municipality authorities had not released an official statement regarding the incident.
Enforcement teams had been actively removing unauthorized businesses around the town, a move that has drawn mixed reactions from traders and residents.
Residents and eyewitnesses expressed concern over safety measures during such operations, highlighting the need for better precautions to prevent similar accidents in the future.
