The National Unity Platform (NUP) Registrar for Nakaseke South, Samuel Byekwaso, has commended the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Deputy Secretary General Rosemary Namayanja for what he described as exemplary, development-focused leadership.
Byekwaso, who is also the director of St. Joseph Bright Future Primary School–Nakitembe, made the remarks on Friday during the school’s Speech Day, an event he deliberately opened to leaders from both the opposition and the ruling NRM.
Despite the invitations, the majority of NUP leaders—except those eyeing councillor positions—did not attend. In contrast, Namayanja surprised many when she personally honoured the invitation and made a financial contribution towards the school’s construction project.
Byekwaso said he was disappointed by his colleagues’ absence but impressed by Namayanja’s gesture.
“I want to thank Namayanja. She is a great example to all politicians that despite our political differences, we can meet as people of Nakaseke and contribute to the development of our area. I want my fellow NUP leaders to learn from this,” Byekwaso said.
He urged residents and political actors in Nakaseke to shun divisive politics and instead prioritise development.
“Elections are not a matter of life and death. We may disagree politically, but on development we should sit together and work for our area. Politics should not be about inciting or abusing those we disagree with,” he added.
Addressing parents at the function, Namayanja thanked Byekwaso for inviting her, describing his openness to leaders across the political divide as a mark of a true development-oriented leader.

She cautioned parents against voting for politicians who sow hatred and violence.
“We, as leaders, must preach peace during this campaign. When a leader comes here and incites you, he will walk away and leave your community divided. Please do not vote for such people,” Namayanja said.
She also used the event to highlight achievements registered in Nakaseke under the NRM government.
These include 114 UPE schools, 40 health centres, and over 21,000 beneficiaries supported under the Parish Development Model, with investments amounting to Shs 21 billion.
She added that more than 60 industries have been established in Nakaseke, employing over 10,000 youths from Greater Luwero and neighbouring areas.
Namayanja encouraged Byekwaso and other NUP leaders to consider joining the NRM in order to consolidate and expand these gains.
“If you want to protect these achievements and get more, vote President Yoweri Museveni and Charles Nsereko Basajjassubi, the NRM candidate for Nakaseke South,” she said.
