Joseph Kabuye Kyofatogabye the Nakaseke Central Constituency Member of Parliament and State Minister for Kampala Metropolitan Affairs have launched a coffee planting campaign aimed at alleviating poverty among households.
Kyofatogabye, was declared the winner of the MP seat with 13,678 votes defeating incumbent MP Allan Mayanja Ssebunya of the National Unity Platform (NUP), who garnered 8,178 votes.
Unlike many newly elected Members of Parliament and other leaders who have taken a break from the constituencies after elections, Kyofatogabye remains active among his electorates as he seeks to unite and develop them. The Members of Parliament elects were gazetted on Tuesday 3rd March and are expected to swear in May, 2026
Nakaseke Central Constituency located in Nakaseke district is among areas that traditionally grow coffee , banana and other cash crops .
However due to the price hike in coffee seedlings, several residents were unable to buy them something that had affected growing of the crop.
As result, Minister Kyofatogabye has launched a campaign to donate seedlings to farmers to enhance coffee growing efforts and alleviate poverty in households.Minister Kyofatogabye launched the campaign at Wabitunda village in Kikamulo sub county where he donated 60,000 coffee seedlings.
The launch was presided over by Christopher Sseguya Kiwanuka the Nakaseke District National Resistance Movement Spokesperson and aide to MP elect Kyofatogabye.
In his message delivered by Sseguya, the MP Elect Kyofotagbye said the donation was in fulfillment of his campaign pledge of alleviating poverty through enhancing coffee growing in the constituency.
Sseguya said that MP Elect Kyofatogabye has since promised to donate the coffee seedlings every season so as to reach out to more households.
The Coffee seedlings were donated to farmers from sub counties of Kikamulo, Kiwoko, Kito,Butalangu and Wakyato in Nakaseke.
“The Coffee prices have been good for years. Therefore I encourage you to look after these seedlings to ensure that you also benefit in these good prices” Sseguya told the beneficiaries.
He also asked the residents to embrace government programmes like Parish Development Model to access capital to look after the coffee and boast household incomes.
Robert Ssemujju Kayumba a beneficairy from Kisoga village expressed gratitude to MP Elect Kyofatogabye for fulfilling his pledge before swearing in.
“During the campaigns, we asked Hon Kyofatogabye to lobby and donate more coffee seedlings to help us fight poverty in our households. We are happy that before he swears in , he has honored the request and delivered. We are hopeful that during his term , the area will prosper” Kayumba said
Another beneficiary Milly Nansubuga from Kyabakazi village said that after growing the coffee,they will no longer struggle to pay fees for their children.
Hanningtone Kisitu another farmer from Kiwoko town said that Kyofatogabye coffee campaign aligns with Kabaka’s campaign of Emmwanyi Terimba.
“We have been yearning for coffee seedlings but we couldn’t afford to buy them because of hiked prices. Currently each coffee seedling costs 2500 shillings and we couldn’t afford to buy as many as we need. The Intervention of our MP Elect is timely and welcome to the farmers” Kisitu said
According to the Ministry of Agriculture coffee prices report for February 2026, a kilogram of Kiboko is at shillings 5,500-6,000, Fair Average Quality – Robusta (FAQ) at shillings 12,000-12,500, Arabica perchant at shillings 15,000-16,000 and Drugar (clean) at 14,000-15,000
In 2025, Uganda solidified its position as Africa leading coffee exporter, with exports for the calendar year totaling 8.7 million bags valued approximately shillings 8.9 trillions, marking a 48% increase in quantity and 71% in value compared to 2024.
In December 2025, Uganda coffee was exported to Italy followed by Belgium, Germany, India and Sudan among other Countries.

African countries that imported Uganda coffee included; Sudan, Algeria, Morocco, Kenya, South Africa,Egypt and Madgascar. Europe remained the main destination for Uganda’s coffees with a 62% import share, higher than November 67% in 2025.
