Police in Luwero District have launched investigations into Katikamu North MP Denis Sekabira and his rival, NRM candidate Gaddafi Nasur, following violent clashes between their supporters on Monday.
The confrontation erupted at Kakuuto Village along Kasiiso Road in Butuntumula Subcounty, where supporters of the two camps allegedly attacked each other, leaving more than 10 people injured.
According to a statement issued by Savannah Regional Police Spokesperson Sam Twiineamazima, the violence broke out shortly after Sekabira’s team concluded their campaign activities in the area at around 7:00 pm.
Twiineamazima noted that supporters armed with sticks, allegedly mobilized by Nasur, confronted Sekabira’s team in what NRM supporters claimed was retaliation for an earlier attack by NUP supporters near Butuntumula Subcounty headquarters the previous day.
“The clash erupted between the two groups, reportedly as retaliation by the NRM supporters for an earlier attack by the NUP team,” Twiineamazima said.
The situation quickly escalated, resulting in serious injuries and prompting a chain of further confrontations. NUP supporters reportedly went on to attack the campaign convoy of Youths Central MP Agnes Kirabo, the NRM flag-bearer for Luwero District Woman MP, as it returned from a rally in Kamira Subcounty.
The attack left a vehicle, registration number UBL 938X and belonging to Mukasa Yakobo — NRM Chairperson for Nyimbwa Subcounty — damaged. Mukasa condemned the incident, accusing MP Sekabira of inciting violence and demanding that he compensates for the vehicle repairs.

Police officers led by ASP Bagonza from Luwero Central Police Station responded swiftly, restoring order and towing the damaged vehicle to the station as investigations commenced.
Twiineamazima said police will summon all individuals involved to record statements and defend themselves.
However, MP Sekabira distanced himself from the violence, accusing Nasur of hiring gangs to intimidate NUP supporters. He urged police to take decisive action and bring Nasur to justice.
During NUP presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi’s rally at Kyegombwa SDA Playground on Tuesday, Sekabira presented several injured supporters as evidence of the alleged attack by Nasur’s team.
Nasur, however, denied any wrongdoing, insisting that his camp acted in self-defense after being attacked. He further accused Sekabira of violating campaign guidelines.
“I run a non-violent campaign, but what happened on Monday was self-defense. Sekabira was not supposed to be at that village — he breached the campaign schedule,” Nasur argued.
Independent candidate Ronald Ndawula has since urged police to rein in Nasur, accusing him of importing violent groups from Kampala to disrupt campaigns.
“If police does not act, this violence may threaten the security of the area. This is why I refused joint NRM campaigns — Nasur has been hiring goons, and now they have started beating rivals,” Ndawula said.
Police continue to maintain security in the affected areas as investigations progress.
