The largest expo showcasing products manufactured by industries from the Greater Luwero districts has entered its final day in Luwero Town.
The expo is organized by the Greater Luwero Investment Forum, headed by Rose Namayanja Nsereko, the Deputy Secretary General of the National Resistance Movement (NRM).
It is being held at Kasana Playground in Luwero Town and has attracted major industries from Liao Shen Industrial Park as well as others operating across the Greater Luwero sub-region.
The expo started on Tuesday, 6th January, and ends on Wednesday, 7th January 2026.
Currently, the Greater Luwero region comprising Luwero, Nakaseke, and Nakasongola districts boasts over 500 large- and small-scale industries.
Shaida Nampomba, the General Manager of Liao Shen Industrial Park, said there are currently 34 operational industries in the park employing over 4500 workers. She noted that the industries include companies producing agro-products, electrical appliances, tiles, and other construction materials.
“All these products are manufactured using local raw materials and are sold both locally and abroad,” Nampomba said while addressing the media at the expo.
As part of the expo incentives, companies reduced prices by 20–50 percent as a giveaway to residents.
Some of the companies from Liao Shen Industrial Park include Good Will Ceramics and Tiles Ltd, Zonglin Lighting Company producing electrical appliances, Ho and Mo Food Technologies Uganda Limited, Gocta Workwear producing gumboots, Lurtex Company, and Gaga Food Industries, among others.
In Luwero District, some of the largest companies include SR Afro Chicks and Breeders Limited located in Yandwe Village, Butuntumula Sub-county, producing one million eggs daily, and Victoria Sugar Limited, which produces sugar and generates electricity.
Other major industries include PRO Industries, the largest ethanol plant in East Africa, based in Ndibulungi Village, Butuntumula Sub-county.
Currently, Backbone East Africa Feeds is constructing a plant in Nyimbwa Sub-county, while Dei Industries has also set up a plant in the same area to produce Bella Grain fortified baker’s flour. Luwero District is also home to Winsgreens Agro Limited, which produces edible cooking oil from sunflower and soybean cereals.
Ammars Farms Limited, located in Butuntumula Sub-county, is investing in farming and exporting fresh agricultural produce, including organic pineapples.
In Nakasongola District, there are currently 18 industries in operation, including Luwero Industries, which manufactures ammunition, Kyoga Dynamics, an emulsion explosive production plant and NEC Streit Uganda Limited, which manufactures armoured vehicles.
Rose Namayanja Nsereko said the Greater Luwero districts now have the highest number of industries among rural districts in Uganda.
“This is a clear manifestation that peace is a catalyst for development. The area was ravaged by war, but after the NRM government stabilized the region, you can see industries rushing to establish plants here,” Namayanja said.
She added that the expo was intended to showcase the region’s potential and demonstrate how it has transformed into a major industrial hub after the guns went silent in 1986.
Retired Major Jessica Alupo, the Vice President of Uganda, said the government is taking deliberate steps to lower the cost of production, including reducing power tariffs, improving infrastructure, and lowering interest rates to boost industrialization.
While representing President Yoweri Museveni at the expo, Alupo noted the rapid industrial growth in the region and pledged that the government will put in place policies to attract local youth to work in the industries.
“In 1980, we had only 80 industries, but currently the Greater Luwero region alone has 500 industries. These industries mean job creation, import substitution, and development. You people of Luwero must be proud and continue to vote for President Yoweri Museveni,” Alupo said.
The expo is expected to close on Wednesday and will be officiated by General Salim Saleh, the Chief Coordinator of Operation Wealth Creation and the founder of Liao Shen Industrial Park.
