The case involving the killing of Pamela Ruth Tumwebaze, a former Director of Student Affairs at Uganda Christian University (UCU), has been adjourned to the 6th of next month to allow police to complete ongoing investigations.
The prime suspect, Dak Hussien Taewaiko, a casual worker, reappeared on Wednesday before the Mukono Magistrate’s Court for mention of charges related to murder and aggravated robbery.
The session, which resumed at around 11:30 a.m., was presided over by Grade One Magistrate Gerald Emwogu.
Due to the capital nature of the offences, the accused was not allowed to take plea, as such cases fall under the jurisdiction of the High Court.
State Attorney Josephine Nanyonga informed the court that investigations are still underway and requested more time to conclude inquiries.
The magistrate granted the request and remanded the accused to Luzira Prison.
Unlike previous court appearances that attracted family members and sympathisers, Wednesday’s session was marked by the absence of the deceased’s relatives.
Tumwebaze was killed on 12th February in a case that sent shockwaves through the university community and residents of Mukono.
Court records indicate that the attacker allegedly forced entry into her residence and strangled her.
He is also said to have disguised himself in a lab coat, confronted a worker at the premises, and demanded keys before fleeing.
Authorities believe the suspect made off with the victim’s mobile phone and a laptop bag, reinforcing the aggravated robbery charge alongside murder.
The case continues to draw significant public attention, particularly within the UCU community, where calls for justice remain strong.
Proceedings are expected to resume next month as investigators prepare the file for committal to the High Court.
