Hussein Dak Taewaiko, and Pamela Tumwebaze

A 21-year-old man accused of killing Uganda Christian University Director of Student Affairs, Pamela Ruth Tumwebaze, has been presented before the Mukono Grade One Magistrate’s Court and remanded on charges of murder and aggravated robbery.

The accused, Hussein Dak Taewaiko, alias Sam, appeared before Grade One Magistrate William Muwonge in Mukono to answer to allegations surrounding the death of the senior university official.

Court heard that the suspect was formerly employed as a domestic worker at Tumwebaze’s home.

Taewaiko was arrested on February 14 in Budaka District after security operatives reportedly traced him to a location where he had sought refuge.

According to the charge sheet registered at Mukono Police Station (MCRB 195/2026), the suspect is a resident of Gwafu West Cell, Seeta Ward in Goma Division, Mukono District.

Prosecution alleges that on February 11, 2026, at Gwafu West Cell, the accused unlawfully caused Tumwebaze’s death with malice aforethought, contrary to Sections 171 and 172 of the Penal Code Act.

He also faces a separate count of aggravated robbery under Section 2 of the same law.

State prosecutors contend that the suspect stole several items from the deceased, including a Samsung Galaxy mobile phone, Shs 200,000 in cash, assorted foreign currency, clothing, and personal documents. It is further alleged that the robbery culminated in her death.

During the court session, Senior State Attorney Emily Ninsiima requested additional time to finalize investigations.

The court was informed that the offences are capital in nature and can only be tried by the High Court, meaning the accused could not take a plea at this stage.

Magistrate Muwonge subsequently remanded Taewaiko until March 19, 2026, as inquiries continue.

The suspect remained composed throughout the proceedings and was escorted back to custody shortly after the session concluded.
