The Roman Catholic Diocese of Masaka has donated a vehicle to Catholic women leaders to facilitate their pastoral work across the diocese.
The donation was made by Bishop Severus Jjumba and delivered on his behalf by Rev. Fr. Joseph Kamoga, Chaplain of the Women’s Guild, during a handover ceremony held at the Marriage Office in Kitovu along the road from Nakayiba to Kitovu Cathedral.
The vehicle is expected to ease transport challenges that have for years hindered the women leaders in executing their duties.
The leaders operate across 64 parishes and several new centers that are in the process of becoming full parishes, covering 10 districts within the diocese.
Their work includes organizing workshops on leadership and marriage, coordinating Catholic Women’s Day celebrations, and leading pilgrimages to various sites within the diocese.
Handing over the keys, Fr. Kamoga conveyed the bishop’s message urging the women to use the vehicle to spread the Word of God among fellow women and to strengthen families through active participation in the Sacraments.
The Bishop emphasized the importance of raising children with strong moral values to build a firm foundation for both the Church and society.
He also expressed concern over the rising cases of domestic violence, noting that many families are collapsing, leaving children to grow up in broken homes under single parenthood, a situation he described as dangerous for both the country and the world.
He cautioned the leaders to ensure proper maintenance of the vehicle so that it continues to support the work of the diocese effectively.
Dorothy Balojja, the leader of the Catholic women in the diocese, welcomed the donation with gratitude, saying the vehicle would significantly improve their ability to move from parish to parish and empower fellow women.
The newly donated vehicle, registration number UAO 506D, is expected to immediately strengthen outreach and coordination of activities across the diocese.
