Speaking to journalists at the PLU offices in Naguru, the Secretary General of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), David Kabanda, announced that the organisation has formally withdrawn its earlier endorsement of Anita Annet Among and Thomas Tayebwa for the positions of Speaker and Deputy Speaker of Uganda’s 12th Parliament.
Kabanda said the reversal follows fresh guidance from PLU Chairman Muhoozi Kainerugaba, noting that the endorsement issued on March 11, 2026, in support of the two parliamentary leaders “has been retracted and withdrawn with immediate effect.”
He added that all PLU members-elect have now been instructed to align with candidates who will be fronted by President Yoweri Museveni and the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) for the top parliamentary leadership positions.
Kabanda further stressed that PLU members are expected to remain guided by the directives and political guidance of Chairman Muhoozi Kainerugaba at all times.
The development is likely to influence ongoing political realignments ahead of the election of the Speaker and Deputy Speaker in Uganda’s 12th Parliament.
