Kayunga -Senior Presidential Advisor and Chairperson of the National Resistance Movement for Kayunga District, Moses Karangwa Kalisa, has died following an accident along the Kayunga-Jinja Highway.
The accident occurred at around 10:40 p.m. on Sunday night at Ssuka Village, near Lake Oil Petrol Station in Kayunga District.
Sezibwa Region Police Spokesperson Hellen Butoto said Karangwa was traveling in his official vehicle, registration number UG 0101151, a Toyota Hilux, when the crash happened.
According to Butoto, the driver was heading from Jinja towards Kayunga when he collided with a motorcyclist who was joining the road. The driver lost control, the vehicle rolled several times, and the three passengers inside, including Karangwa, were injured.
Police and residents rushed to the scene and transferred the injured to Kayunga Referral Hospital for treatment.
Karangwa was later evacuated to Nakasero Hospital, where he died overnight.
The injured guards have been identified as Private Atukwase Prosper, 29, a UPDF officer attached to the Engineering Brigade at Lubonge Barracks, and Private Geoffrey, also a UPDF soldier. Both remain at Kayunga Referral Hospital receiving treatment.
Karangwa contested twice for the position of NRM CEC Vice Chairperson for the Buganda region but lost both times. In 2025, he was defeated by Microfinance State Minister Haruna Kasolo.
Minister for the Presidency Milly Babalanda and State Minister for Youths Balaam Barugahare have since eulogized the late Karangwa, describing him as a dedicated party leader and patriot.
