KAMPALA — The Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) has expelled nine members from the party with immediate effect after its National Disciplinary Committee found them guilty of breaching the party constitution and engaging in misconduct.
The affected members are Denis Enap Adim, Jack Kabusu, Aisha Natukunda Nawume, Emmanuel Were Magero, Suzan Achola, Chris Ongom, Alex Ogwal Adyebo, George Ewal and Josephine Babirye.
The disciplinary action follows complaints filed against the members over alleged violations of the UPC Constitution and the party’s rules and procedures.
The National Disciplinary Committee, chaired by Peter Paul Okello, heard and determined the cases during proceedings held at Garden Inn Hotel in Lira City.
Speaking to journalists at the UPC headquarters in Kampala, Okello said the committee considered the complaints, responses from the accused members and other material before reaching its findings.
He said the committee established that the members had breached provisions of the UPC Constitution of 2008, as amended, and the party’s Rules of Procedure.
Among the allegations considered by the committee were the forging and unauthorised use of party letterheads, stamps and seals, as well as making false representations in matters concerning the party.
Okello said the conduct amounted to serious violations of the party’s rules and warranted disciplinary action.
“The committee found that the respondents breached the party constitution and the party cannot continue with their service,” Okello said.
The committee has recommended that the UPC National Council formally dismiss the affected members from the party.
The recommendation will now be considered by the National Council and other relevant party organs in accordance with the UPC’s internal procedures.
The disciplinary committee said its findings were based on the alleged misuse of official party documents and symbols, including letterheads, stamps and seals, together with representations that were found to be false.
The affected members may pursue any remedies available to them under the UPC Constitution and internal disciplinary procedures.
Okello said the National Disciplinary Committee had completed its mandate on the cases and forwarded its recommendation to the appropriate party organ for consideration.
The National Council is expected to determine the next course of action on the committee’s recommendation.
