Police in Mubende District have arrested 38 suspects during an operation targeting rising criminal activities in Budibaga Trading Centre, Kalonga Sub-county.
The operation, conducted on the night of October 18, 2026, followed public outcry over an alleged surge in criminal activities, including burglary, theft, livestock theft, break-ins, mugging, snatching and opium abuse, among others.
Lameck Kigozi, the Wamala Regional Police Spokesperson, said the operation was launched following intelligence gathering, which enabled officers to round up the suspects during the nighttime crackdown.
“Exhibits of breaking implements and opium were recovered from some suspects,” Kigozi said.
The suspects have since been transferred to Mubende Central Police Station as investigations continue.
Police said those found to have links to criminal activities in Budibaga will be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
At the time of the operation, police investigations were also ongoing into an attack by unknown assailants in Kitenga Sub-county during the Independence Day period, in which three people were killed and others injured.
