The Uganda Police Force has outlined strict security and access protocols ahead of Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s 52nd birthday marathon, scheduled for Sunday at Kololo Independence Grounds.
Addressing the media at the Uganda Media Centre, police spokesperson Kituma Rusoke said participants and spectators should expect thorough security checks and are urged to cooperate with security personnel.
Rusoke emphasized that access to the venue will be controlled through two main gates. The Protea Gate on Elgon Terrace will strictly be used by invited guests arriving by vehicle, who must present invitation cards. Meanwhile, pedestrians will access the grounds through Gate Two on Wampewo Avenue.
The alternative parking has been arranged at nearby locations including City High School, Kololo Secondary School, Katikati Grounds, and areas adjacent to Wuma Showground along Lugogo Bypass.
“We are providing adequate security together with other agencies, but we call for full compliance. Avoid carrying prohibited items such as knives or any suspicious equipment. Unattended bags will be taken for safe custody,” Rusoke warned.
The marathon route will cover approximately 10 kilometres, starting from Kololo Independence Grounds and extending through surrounding roads in Kampala.
Speaking at the same briefing, the chairperson of the organising committee, Bob Kakuru, described the run as more than just a sporting event.
“This is a reflection of the patriotic spirit that Gen. Muhoozi has for Uganda. This year’s theme is ‘Run for Charity, Run for Hope,’ aimed at supporting vulnerable communities through proceeds from the sale of running kits,” Kakuru said.
He noted that this year’s event has gained momentum through collaboration with the Patriotic League of Uganda, which has contributed to improved organisation and preparations.
The annual marathon, held in honour of Muhoozi Kainerugaba, is expected to attract large crowds, with organisers and security agencies assuring the public of safety and a well-coordinated event
