Atleast six people have died and 15 others Injured in separate accidents along Kampala -Gulu highway during the weekend.
The latest accident occurred on Sunday March 22nd at around 11:30am at Sasira trading center in Wabinyonyi sub county in Nakasongola district.
The accident involved a Subaru Forester registration number UA 969AD and a Taxi Toyota Hiace registration number UA 525 DA.
Assistant Superintendent of Police Sam Twiineamazima the Savannah Regional Police Spokesperson said that one person was knocked dead and five others injured in the accident.
Twiineamazima explained that the driver of the Subaru Forester heading towards Gulu side attempted to overtake another vehicle ahead within the trading centre but lost control and collided with the parked taxi.
During the accident, the Subaru Forester killed one person on the spot and injured five others who were boarding the taxi to head to Kampala city.
The dead person was identified as 16 year old Annet Lunkuse . The injured passengers were injured as Emmanuel Seguya the driver of the taxi, Amon Bukenya, Vanisha Nakazibwe aged 16 years, Sadrack Sesanga aged 25 and Zam Nanyombi all were boarding the taxi.
Another accident occurred on Sunday at around 5:00am at Ngogolo village in Butuntumula sub county in Luwero district along Kampala -Gulu highway
Its reported that truck registration numbers SSD 908A and SSD 909A heading towards Kampala city detached its rear trailer before veering off the road, and crashed into the building killing two people and injuring two others.
The deceased were identified by Police as Annet Nandyose aged 38 years and her daughter Pretty Nabawanga aged two years .
On Friday night, three supporters of Red Devo FC died and eight others injured in an accident near Kalule trading center in Luwero district along Kampala -Gulu highway
Twiineamazima said that the accident occurred when a Lorry truck attempted to overtake a long queue of vehicles a maneuver which resulted in a head-on collision with the oncoming Taxi.
He added that in the head on collision, three supporters died on the spot and eight others injured all passengers in the taxi .
The supporters were traveling from Kampala to Amolatar District after attending a soccer match at Hamz stadium on Friday.
Luwero and Nakasongola districts have registered increased daily accidents along Kampala -Gulu highway.
The Residents and local leaders have since appealed for enforcement of traffic laws to curb the accidents.
According to 2024/25 Luwero District Health report ,atleast at least 475 people were admitted to health centers after sustaining injuries and 21 died in road accidents involving motorcycles.
The report further indicates the 317 people also admitted due to accidents involving motor vehicles and four died.
