Masaka Police have detained three suspects, including a bar owner, in connection with the suspected murder of 51-year-old Deus Kiriggwajjo, whose body was found lying in a pool of blood in Galiraaya Village, Kyanamukaaka Sub-county, Masaka District.
According to Greater Masaka Police spokesperson Twaha Kasirye, the suspects are Barbara Namaganda, 36, a kafunda bar owner; Peruth Nakiranda, 26; and Moses Mayombo, 31, both attendants at the same bar.
Kasirye said preliminary findings suggest that a misunderstanding may have escalated into a violent altercation, leading to Kiriggwajjo’s death. The deceased is believed to have been at the bar for a drink at the time of the incident.
Mary Nakate, the deceased’s mother, alerted authorities after discovering her son’s body covered in blood. The body was later transported to Masaka Regional Referral Hospital for a postmortem examination.
Police say the exact cause of death has not yet been established, but investigations are ongoing. The suspects are expected to assist detectives with inquiries into the incident.
A local resident, Charles Kateete, described Kiriggwajjo as a humble builder who had no known history of wrongdoing. He alleged that the attackers may have robbed the deceased before killing him, although this has not been independently confirmed by police.
The suspects are currently being held at Kyanamukaaka Police Station as investigations continue.
