Residents of Kako Cell in Nyendo – Mukungwe Division in Masaka City were left shocked on Wednesday morning after discovering a human head abandoned in their neighbourhood.
The severed head, believed to belong to a teenage girl, was reportedly wrapped in a polythene bag and dumped in the area by unknown people.
Local leaders say the deceased is not their resident, adding that no one matching the deceased’s description has been reported missing in their area.
However, this has raised the possibility that the murder could have happened elsewhere before the head was brought and dumped in Kako cell.
The shocking discovery has also sparked anxiety among residents who are now seeking to know the identity of the deceased. Some residents have linked the incident to ritual sacrifice, although there is no evidence to confirm it.
Twaha Kasirye, the Masaka Regional Police spokesperson, has confirmed the incident, saying police had retrieved the head and taken it to Masaka Regional Referral Hospital for further examination.
He says that investigations have started to identify the deceased, understand the circumstances surrounding her death and further discover the remaining body parts or the torso.
The discovery comes amid a similar incident that occurred in the region, where residents in Kyotera district recently discovered a headless body of a man in a bush.
According to Kasirye, the two incidents have raised concerns, and police have yet to establish whether the two incidents are connected.
“In case your loved ones are missing, please notify police or visit Masaka RRH. Also, in case you have any information regarding the two bodies, please notify police to enable us to identify them,” he appeals.
