A 17-year-old student of Naama Secondary School has died following a tragic road accident involving a motorcycle and a vehicle along the old Mityana–Mubende Road.
The deceased has been identified as Jamada Mugerwa, a resident of Katakala Cell in Mityana Municipality, Mityana District.
According to Wamala Regional Police Spokesperson Lameck Kigozi, the accident occurred on November 4, 2026, at approximately 7:30 p.m. as Mugerwa rode motorcycle registration number UMA 732F, a red Bajaj Boxer, from school heading home.
Kigozi explained that upon reaching Wabiruku Swamp along the old Mityana–Mubende Road, Mugerwa encountered an oncoming blue Isuzu Elf, registration number UBQ 807V, travelling from Mityana towards Mubende.
Police preliminary findings indicate that the vehicle had defective headlamps, resulting in poor visibility.
”At a bend in the road, the motorcycle had a head-on collision with the vehicle, injuring the rider, Mugerwa Jamada, and his passenger, a fellow student only identified as Angel,” Kigozi said.
The two victims were rushed to Mityana General Hospital for medical treatment.
Following the crash, the wreckage of both the vehicle and motorcycle was towed to Mityana Traffic Police Parking Yard as investigations into the circumstances surrounding the accident commenced.
However, the accident, which was initially classified as serious, turned fatal on Thursday, November 5, 2026, when Mugerwa succumbed to the injuries he had sustained.
Police have since launched efforts to trace and apprehend the driver of the Isuzu Elf, who reportedly fled the scene following the accident.
Kigozi expressed condolences to the bereaved family, as well as the school community, saying:
”We share our sympathy with the bereaved, especially the students and teachers of Naama Secondary School, parents and friends of the deceased.”
The tragic incident has left the Naama Secondary School community mourning the loss of one of its students, while police continue pursuing the driver and investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash.
