Just days after his nomination to contest for the Mukono South parliamentary seat in the 2026 general elections, Mubarak Ssekikubo, the LCIII Chairperson for Nakisunga Sub- County, has been remanded to Kauga Prison until November 4, 2025 over charges related to a recruitment fraud scheme.
Ssekikubo appeared before the Mukono Grade I Magistrate’s Court on Monday, where he was charged with corruption, obtaining money by pretense, and impersonation.
He was arrested last Wednesday, moments after leaving the nomination centre, by operatives from the State House Anti-Corruption Unit (SH-ACU).
Ssekikubo is accused of extorting money from job applicants while claiming to have influence over the Mukono District Service Commission (DSC).
“He allegedly received large sums of money from individuals seeking recruitment into government service, promising to help them secure positions,” Bunya said.
Court records show that between January and June 2025, Ssekikubo allegedly conspired with Ronald Saku Mugerwa, the Probation and Welfare Officer of Lugazi Municipality, and Dr. Wataba Saadi, the Lugazi Municipal Medical Officer, to defraud Dr. Mukisa George William of UGX 38 million.
The money was reportedly meant to “facilitate” members of the Mukono DSC to offer him a medical officer position.
While Mugerwa is already on remand at Kauga Prison, Dr. Wataba remains on the run, with criminal summons issued against him.
The prosecution informed court that investigations into the matter are still ongoing, prompting the magistrate to remand Ssekikubo until November 4.
The SH-ACU said the case stemmed from a whistleblower complaint lodged on July 7, 2025, alleging widespread bribery in the recruitment of personnel in the health and education sectors under the Mukono DSC.
“This is part of our broader effort to dismantle corruption networks that exploit job seekers,” Bunya noted.
Ssekikubo, who maintains his innocence, briefly told journalists after nomination that he had “never received any money from anyone” and would “respond appropriately if called upon.”
