Namayanja Lists NRM Gains as Museveni Kicks Off Presidential Campaigns in Buganda
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag bearer, has officially launched his presidential campaigns in the Buganda region as the 2026 race intensifies.
Since launching his nationwide campaign trail on September 30, President Museveni has addressed 106 rallies across Northern, Eastern, and Western Uganda. He is scheduled to campaign today in Kakumiro District before entering Buganda through Mubende.
Over the course of the week, Museveni will hold rallies in Kassanda, Kiboga, Kyankwanzi, and Mityana districts, all within the Buganda region. On December 18, he will proceed to the Greater Masaka sub-region, beginning with rallies in Rakai and Lyantonde districts. The President is expected to take a short break for the Christmas holidays from December 24 to December 28, 2025.
Speaking ahead of the Buganda campaign trail, Rose Namayanja Nsereko, the Deputy Secretary General of the NRM, said the President continues to draw huge crowds at campaign rallies—an indication, she noted, of his sustained popularity across the country.
As Museveni begins his Buganda engagements, Namayanja outlined several development gains registered in the region under the NRM government, citing rapid urbanization as one of the key achievements.
She revealed that 1,495 out of 1,614 parishes in Buganda are currently covered by Universal Primary Education (UPE). The region boasts 3,020 UPE schools, 331 Universal Secondary Schools, and 26 government technical institutions. Additionally, at least 13,405 students from the region have benefited from the government’s student loan scheme.
In the health sector, Namayanja noted that 48 out of 69 constituencies in Buganda have Health Centre IV facilities, while 278 out of 340 sub-counties are served by Health Centre III units, with government commitment to extend coverage to all remaining areas.
She added that access to clean water stands at 80 percent, with 9,924 villages benefiting, while 295 out of 340 sub-counties are connected to the national electricity grid.
On livelihoods, Namayanja said the government has injected UGX 592 billion into Buganda through the Parish Development Model (PDM), benefiting approximately 592,000 households.
“These are tangible gains in Buganda and reasons why we believe our candidate has performed well in the region. As he starts the campaign here, Buganda has much to point to from his government,” Namayanja said.
Highlighting developments in the Greater Mubende area, she disclosed that 59 out of 73 sub-counties now have Health Centre III facilities, with 140 government health centres constructed. Since 2019, sixteen Health Centre II facilities have been upgraded to Health Centre III, alongside major renovations at Mubende Regional Referral Hospital.
Namayanja further noted that before the NRM government came to power, Kyankwanzi and Kiboga districts had only two government secondary schools—Bukomero in Kiboga and Vvumba in Kyankwanzi. Today, the two districts have 20 government secondary schools, while the Greater Mubende region has a total of 66.
In infrastructure, the NRM government has invested UGX 63 billion in upgrading municipal roads to tarmac standards. An additional UGX 13.98 billion was allocated for the construction of a modern market and a new taxi park in Mubende Municipality, facilities that collectively employ over 100,000 people.
“Greater Mubende has significantly transformed, and these are the reasons the people must protect these gains by voting President Yoweri Museveni in 2026,” Namayanja said.
