AkademikIT Among 100 Firms Selected for Enterprise Uganda Export Accelerator, Earns TBN Africa Mentorship

A Ugandan digital education platform has joined the country’s push to strengthen its export sector after participating in the inaugural Export Accelerator Programme organised by Enterprise Uganda.

AkademikIT, a school management and automation solution developed by Bookablehood Ltd, was among the 100 growth-orientated enterprises selected for the first cohort of the Export Accelerator Programme (EAP). The intensive three-day programme took place from 16th to 18th March 2026 at the Enterprise Uganda Centre of Excellence in Butabika, Kampala.

Following the accelerator, AkademikIT has been selected for a specialised seven-week mentorship program facilitated by Transformational Business Network (TBN) Africa, a partner that supports export-ready businesses with practical guidance on market access, compliance, financing, and scaling.

AkademikIT streamlines school operations, including student admissions, fee collection, academic reporting, attendance, examinations, and compliance with the new national curriculum. The platform aims to improve efficiency, transparency, and learning outcomes in educational institutions.

Stephen Okhutu, CEO of Bookablehood Ltd, who represented the company during the programme, described the experience as valuable in preparing the business for regional expansion.

The Export Accelerator Programme provided practical knowledge on export requirements and connected us with key stakeholders. We are now working with TBN Africa to strengthen our systems and position AkademikIT for broader markets in East Africa,” Okhutu said.

The Export Accelerator Programme is part of Enterprise Uganda’s efforts to build a robust export ecosystem and support the country’s ambition to achieve tenfold economic growth through increased trade. It focuses on equipping businesses with skills in export readiness, quality standards, logistics, sustainability, and access to finance.

While many participants represent traditional export sectors such as agriculture, tourism, and minerals, the inclusion of technology solutions like AkademikIT highlights the programme’s openness to innovative, knowledge-based enterprises that can generate foreign exchange and create high-value opportunities.

Enterprise Uganda Director General Charles Ocici has emphasised the importance of preparing local businesses to compete effectively in regional and international markets.

This development comes as Uganda continues to promote diversification of exports beyond raw commodities toward value-added and digital products and services.

AkademikIT’s advancement to the mentorship phase is expected to help the company refine its export strategy while contributing to improved education delivery both locally and across the region.

The first cohort of the Export Accelerator Programme concluded successfully, with participants gaining direct engagement with regulators, financial institutions, and other ecosystem players.
