A fierce political contest is taking shape in the Greater Luwero area following the nomination of candidates for various parliamentary seats across Luwero, Nakaseke, and Nakasongola districts.
In Luwero District, a total of 29 candidates were nominated to contest for four parliamentary seats — Katikamu South, Bamunanika, Katikamu North, and District Woman Member of Parliament.
In Nakasongola District, 19 aspirants were nominated to compete for three seats: Budyebo County, Nakasongola County, and District Woman Member of Parliament.
Meanwhile, Nakaseke District saw 16 candidates nominated for four parliamentary positions — Nakaseke North, Nakaseke South, Nakaseke Central, and District Woman Member of Parliament.
Among the most hotly contested constituencies is Nakaseke South, where Charles Nsereko Basajjassubi has been nominated to challenge the incumbent Paulson Luttamaguzi. In Nakaseke Central, Minister Kyofatogabye Kabuye will face off with incumbent Allan Mayanja in what is expected to be a tense race.
In Luwero District, the Katikamu North race has also drawn public attention, with Gaddafi Nasur (NRM), Denis Sekabira (NUP), and Ronald Ndawula (Independent) locking horns for the seat.
The most crowded contest, however, is in Katikamu South, where 10 candidates are vying to unseat incumbent MP Hassan Kirumira.
In Nakasongola County, the battle lines are drawn between Ivan Kyeyune (NUP) and Stephen Tibelondwa Bujjingo (NRM), who are considered the frontrunners in the race.
