Mityana -Police in Mityana Municipality are hunting for an unidentified man who allegedly attacked a family and poured a substance suspected to be acid on them, injuring four people.
The incident occurred on August 6, 2026, at about 7:45 p.m. in Kasimbi-Busimbi Cell, Busimbi Division, Mityana Municipality, Mityana District.
According to Lameck Kigozi, the Wamala Regional Police Spokesperson, the suspect, who was dressed in a maroon jacket, reportedly took advantage of a power blackout to gain access to the family home of Francis Luminsa.
Kigozi said the suspect first asked children at the home where their mother was. The children then led him to the sitting room, where their mother was with other family members.
“He immediately sprayed them with a substance suspected to be acid, targeting the mother, before pouring it on all the people present in the house, including the children who had led him inside,” Kigozi said.
He added that the victims raised an alarm during the ensuing stampede, attracting neighbours who rushed to their rescue.
Four people sustained injuries in the attack and were rushed to Mityana General Hospital for treatment.
Police identified the victims as Prossy Nankumba, 43, the mother; Teddy Namugga, 17; Robinah Nalukenge, 10, a pupil; and six-year-old Jeremiah Ssekaggo.
Residents later reported the incident to Mityana Police Station. Officers responded and visited the scene, but the suspect had already fled.
Police recovered a container believed to have been used to carry the substance, which the suspect allegedly abandoned on the verandah. His maroon jacket was also recovered along the route he reportedly used to escape.
“The exhibits, including the container used to carry the substance, which the attacker abandoned on the verandah as he fled, and his jacket, which he dropped along the way, were recovered,” Kigozi said.
Police have since launched a manhunt for the suspect and opened investigations into the attack.
Kigozi said the victims were in stable condition at the time of the filing this story .
