State Minister for Local Government Justine Nameere has endorsed Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba for the presidency, arguing that being the son of a sitting president should not prevent him from participating in politics or seeking the country’s highest office.
Nameere says Muhoozi has demonstrated leadership experience, particularly through his service in the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), and credits him with championing a renewed fight against corruption.
She says it is Muhoozi’s leadership and vision that inform her support for his presidential bid, adding that she believed in his ability to lead Uganda long before his current presidential ambitions emerged.
Nameere has also dismissed reports of disagreements between her, the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), and Muhoozi, saying her stance against corruption may have been used by some individuals to create divisions between them.
She says her endorsement goes beyond simply signing a declaration, arguing that Muhoozi’s campaign will require a clear vision, a strong message, and a practical plan to mobilise support for his presidential bid.
Nameere maintains that she has consistently supported Muhoozi and was among the early leaders to recognise what she describes as his competence and vision for Uganda.
