Ntenjeru South Election Petition: Court Adjourns Hearing to 2pm as Nsanja Mobilises Witnesses

The High Court in Mukono has adjourned to 2pm the hearing of an election petition filed by National Unity Platform (NUP) candidate Patrick Nsanja challenging the victory of National Resistance Movement (NRM) candidate Fred Baseke in the Ntenjeru South parliamentary election in Kayunga District.

The case came before Justice Phillip Mwaka on Monday morning, with Nsanja expected to present witnesses in support of his petition.

Kibuule Laughs Off Kiwanuka’s Complaint Over Supporters at Mukono North Court Hearing

Nsanja alleges that results were falsified in 15 polling areas and is asking the court to order a recount of the votes cast in the affected areas.

The hearing was briefly adjourned to allow Nsanja to organise and bring his witnesses to court for cross examination.

Baseke’s lawyer, Ahmed Kalule Mukasa, welcomed the commencement of the hearing and told court that his legal team was ready to proceed with the case.

Kalule Mukasa said the defence had agreed with the court to begin cross examination of the witnesses on Monday.

Outside the courtroom, Nsanja was seen making phone calls as he sought to mobilise his witnesses to appear for the proceedings.

The petition is expected to determine whether the alleged irregularities cited by Nsanja affected the outcome of the Ntenjeru South parliamentary election and whether they warrant a recount or any other remedy from the court.
