Three Arrested Over Aggravated Robbery, Illegal Possession of Military Uniforms

During a joint interrogation by investigators from Mityana Police and the Regional Flying Squad Unit, Nzabashaija reportedly confessed that in mid-July 2026, he broke into the home of a serving UPDF officer in Kiriri, Makindye Division, Kampala, and stole military property, including two pairs of UPDF uniforms, a three-inch mattress, a sweater, and a bag.

Mityana-Police in Mityana District have arrested three people in connection with aggravated robbery and the illegal possession of military uniforms.

The suspects have been identified as Wilberforce Nzabashaija, 26, a resident of Kiriri in Makindye Division, Kampala City; his brother, Frederick Kusasira; and their mother, whose identity has not been disclosed.

According to the Wamala Regional Police Spokesperson, Lameck Kigozi, Nzabashaija traveled to his mother’s home in Kiwoya-Bweza Village, Kakindu Sub-county, Mityana District, on August 1, 2026, carrying a suitcase.

Kigozi said that during the night of August 1–2, Nzabashaija opened the suitcase, dressed in military uniforms, armed himself with a knife, pliers, and a screwdriver, and teamed up with his brother to carry out a series of aggravated robberies.

“The suspects broke into the home of Ms Namatta and stole a bicycle. They then proceeded to the homes of Ms Ntegeyo and Ms Nakiwala Teopista, where they threatened the occupants with violence while demanding money,” Kigozi said.

Residents responded to the victims’ alarm and managed to arrest Nzabashaija. Upon his arrest, they recovered a pair of military uniforms, a knife, pliers, and a screwdriver. The suspect and the recovered exhibits were later handed over to Kakindu Police Station.

Police subsequently arrested Frederick Kusasira and the suspects’ mother, who allegedly attempted to obstruct officers while they were carrying out their duties.

Police say the suspect admitted that he intended to use the stolen military uniforms to facilitate criminal activities, including robberies and the establishment of illegal roadblocks.

Kigozi further revealed that Nzabashaija told investigators he relocated to his mother’s village in Mityana after an earlier robbery attempt in Kiriri, Makindye, in which he attacked an elderly woman but failed to obtain any money.

“Fortunately, members of the community arrested him before he could cause further harm to residents in Mityana,” Kigozi said.

Police said investigations are ongoing and that the case file will be submitted to the Resident State Attorney in Mityana for perusal and sanction of appropriate charges against the three suspects.
