Former Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago has been arrested from his home on Monday morning.
Before his arrest, Lukwago posted on his X account that two security vehicles, commonly referred to as “drones,” had surrounded his residence with security operatives as early as 5:00am.
He was later taken into custody and reportedly bundled into one of the waiting vehicles, which then drove him to an undisclosed location.
According to Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda, the Secretary General of People’s Front for Freedom, security operatives forcefully entered Lukwago’s home before arresting him.
Meanwhile, Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Commander of Defence Forces, later confirmed the arrest on his X account. However, he did not provide details regarding the reasons for Lukwago’s detention.
The arrest comes just days after Lukwago filed a court case concerning Kizza Besigye, citing alleged death threats, claims of unlawful abduction, and concerns over the possibility of a fair trial.
