Patriots Club Uganda, PLU Forge Partnership to Boost Grassroots Mobilisation and Patriotism

Patriots Club Uganda and the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) have entered into a partnership aimed at strengthening grassroots mobilisation, promoting patriotism and supporting community-driven national development initiatives across the country.

The collaboration was announced during a courtesy visit by the Patriots Club Uganda leadership to the PLU Secretariat in Kampala, where officials from both organisations pledged to work together in mobilising citizens to actively participate in Uganda’s social and economic transformation.

Leading the Patriots Club delegation, National Coordinator Bob Kakuru said the visit was undertaken on the guidance of the club’s leadership to establish a structured working relationship with PLU based on their shared vision for national development.

Kakuru said Patriots Club Uganda, which was founded in 2016 and officially launched in 2020, has expanded its presence to more than 114 districts and continues to implement programmes focusing on environmental conservation, public health, education, food security, child protection and community development.

“We are here to work together in a strategic way with the Patriotic League of Uganda,” Kakuru said, adding that collaboration would strengthen efforts to engage communities in development activities.

He highlighted the club’s environmental conservation initiatives, including the Green in Uganda campaign, nationwide tree-planting exercises and climate change awareness programmes aimed at encouraging sustainable environmental practices.

Patriots Club member and environmentalist Capt. J. Allen Katwesigye urged government and stakeholders to establish a dedicated climate change fund to support conservation initiatives and enhance Uganda’s participation in international climate change negotiations.

Katwesigye argued that sustainable social and economic transformation cannot be achieved without addressing the growing impact of environmental challenges such as prolonged droughts, floods and other climate-related disasters.

The club also underscored the importance of empowering young people with practical skills to improve livelihoods and drive economic growth.

Patriots Club member Stephen Musisi called for greater investment in technical and vocational education, agriculture, entrepreneurship, digital technologies and industrial skills, saying such interventions would equip young Ugandans to contribute meaningfully to national development.

Musisi also noted that Uganda’s informal sector, including boda boda riders, market vendors and taxi operators, remains a major source of employment and deserves targeted support to enhance productivity and incomes.

Welcoming the partnership, PLU Secretary General Fadil Twalla said the two organisations share common values centred on patriotism, national unity and community service.

Twalla challenged members to translate patriotism into tangible action by fighting corruption, supporting government programmes and actively participating in community development initiatives.

“Patriotism without action is empty. Let us move from talk to doing,” he said.

He revealed that PLU is establishing organisational structures from the village to the regional level to strengthen grassroots mobilisation and encourage wider citizen participation in national development programmes.

Twalla expressed confidence that the partnership with Patriots Club Uganda would provide a strong platform for joint initiatives in youth empowerment, environmental conservation, community transformation and the promotion of national unity.

Both organisations pledged to deepen their cooperation through coordinated programmes aimed at mobilising Ugandans to actively contribute to the country’s development agenda.
