Nine communication and media professionals have been shortlisted for the position of Assistant Director, Media and Communication at the Parliament of Uganda, in a recruitment exercise taking place amid changes in the institution’s communications leadership.
Among those shortlisted are former Daily Monitor senior parliamentary reporter Emmanuel Gyezaho, former Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) and Umeme communications manager Peter Kauju, journalist and former NBS Television, Uganda Broadcasting Corporation (UBC) and Vision Group staffer Charles Odongtho, and former Daily Monitor journalist Benon Herbert Oluka.
The Parliamentary Commission advertised the position on August 12, 2026, with the deadline for applications set for September 1.
The other candidates on the shortlist are Joseph Kaaya, Ramathan Mbago, Vicent Musoke, Bernadette Ndema and Martin Ninsiima.
According to the shortlist signed by Clerk to Parliament Adolf Mwesige, the successful applicants at the shortlisting stage will receive individual communication indicating the date, venue and time of their interviews.
The recruitment comes at a time when Parliament is reorganising its communications leadership following the interdiction of Chris Obore, who previously served as Director of Communications and Public Affairs.
Obore was among seven senior parliamentary officials interdicted after the Inspector General of Government directed Parliament to suspend them from exercising their official duties while corruption-related criminal proceedings continue. The officials had been charged before the Anti-Corruption Court with offences including embezzlement, money laundering and causing financial loss.
On September 9, the High Court’s Anti-Corruption Division granted bail to Obore and six co-accused. Obore was granted Shs30 million cash bail and ordered to deposit his passport and a land title with court, while his sureties were each bonded at Shs300 million.
Following the changes, Parliament appointed veteran communications professional Grace Gidudu as Acting Director of Communication and Public Affairs. Gidudu had previously served as Assistant Director for Media Relations and was responsible for coordinating parliamentary media engagement, public information campaigns and communication between Parliament and the press.
The recruitment of an Assistant Director, Media and Communication therefore takes place while Gidudu continues to oversee the directorate in an acting capacity.
Gyezaho brings experience in journalism and institutional communication. He previously worked with Daily Monitor as a senior parliamentary reporter before moving into communications roles, including work with the European Union in Uganda.
Kauju has held senior communications positions at KCCA and Umeme, giving him experience in both public-sector and corporate communication.
Odongtho has worked with Vision Group and UBC and was among the founding moderators and hosts of NBS Television’s Frontline. He has also served as a spokesperson at the Office of the Prime Minister.
Oluka, a former Daily Monitor journalist, has worked in investigative journalism and currently serves as an editor at the Global Investigative Journalism Network.
Kaaya has previously worked at Parliament, while the remaining shortlisted candidates bring experience from different areas of media and communication.
The Assistant Director, Media and Communication is expected to support Parliament’s engagement with the media and the public, including communication about legislative business, parliamentary activities and institutional programmes.
