Charles Nsereko Kawuma Basajjassubi has been duly nominated to contest for the Nakaseke South parliamentary seat. Christine Fiona Kunihira, the Nakaseke District Returning Officer, declared Nsereko as a candidate for the position following his successful nomination.
After his nomination, Nsereko held a rally that attracted crowds of supporters and officials from the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Secretariat.
Addressing the gathering, he vowed to liberate Nakaseke South from what he described as the “occupation” of the opposition Member of Parliament, Paulson Luttamaguzi Ssemakula, who has represented the constituency since 2016.
Nsereko criticized the incumbent for focusing on “insulting the President and other leaders” instead of lobbying for development projects.
“Once you vote for me, I will prioritize service delivery and address the issues affecting you. I will focus on education, health, and ensuring access to clean water in all villages. On job creation, we shall encourage the youth to embrace skilling programs and benefit from opportunities such as the Namunkekera Rural Industrial Park,” Nsereko said.
Nsereko will face off with incumbent MP Paulson Luttamaguzi Ssemakula (NUP), Ronald Kakooza (Independent), Arthur Nkalubo (Independent), and Stephen Mukibi (FDC). However, the race is expected to be tight between Nsereko and Luttamaguzi.
Speaking at the event, NRM Deputy Secretary General Rosemary Namayanja rallied voters to support Nsereko, accusing Luttamaguzi of failing to deliver on his promises.
“Our MP promised to ensure that the Kapeeka–Nakaseke–Kisule road is tarmacked, but his term has ended without fulfilling that pledge. He cannot deliver because he has abused everyone he should have lobbied from. It’s time for voters to choose a leader who makes pledges and fulfills them,” Namayanja said.
Luttamaguzi now faces stiff competition from Nsereko as several voters accuse him of overstaying and failing to lobby effectively for the area’s development.
