Fourteen teachers have been arrested by Greater Masaka police over allegations of malpractice during the 2025 Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE).
The suspects include six UNEB invigilators stationed in Rakai and Kyotera districts, and eight teachers from St. Kizito Butenzi Primary School in Buwunga Sub County, Masaka District.
Twaha Kasirye, a spokesperson for the Greater Masaka Police, said the suspects were arrested and detained to different police stations to await prosecution.
“The suspects were found writing answers on the blackboard of the Examination room so that pupils could copy them,” said Kasirye.
According to Kasirye, the suspects are teachers at St Kizito Butenzi Primary school and they include; Ashiraf Kavuma, Mesearch Juuko, Ronald Kyuusa, Jackson Ngobya, Ismail Mubiru, Adam Turyasingura, Michael Ssempijja, and Sharif Wasswa .
The eight investigators were taken into custody from several PLE centers in Kyotera District and include; Sylivia Nassango, Gonzaga Ssekitoleko, Jonah Lubega, Harriet Nakityo, Sulaiti Mulindwa, and Annet Nassamula.
Police also arrested Noah Katenda, who allegedly posed as a UNEB scout and solicited money from headteachers in Rakai District.
Kasirye confirmed that all suspects have already recorded statements and had their files submitted for prosecution. They were accused of illegally possessing exam materials and encouraging and facilitating exam misconduct.
