Sam Kahamba Kutesa has launched an aggressive mobilization drive for President Yoweri Museveni in Sembabule District, signaling a return to frontline politics ahead of the 2026 elections.
During a meeting at his home in Kisekera, Kutesa told NRM leaders that his priority is the presidential race. He said he has no divided attention this cycle.
“My daughter is not standing, so I am putting all my strength behind the president,” he said.
Kutesa also took aim at Mawogola North MP Gorreth Namugga, accusing her of attacking government projects. He vowed to unseat her. “She has embarrassed Sembabule by belittling local development,” he said.
He called on Aine Kaguta, President Museveni’s younger brother, to join the mobilization effort. Several NRM figures attended the meeting, including Florence Nambaziira and Emmanuel Rwashande. Aine did not attend or send a representative, a move that stirred criticism.
Steven Nuwagaba, a supporter of independent candidate Jet Tumwebaze, accused Kutesa of sidelining Tumwebaze despite his growing support.
“When Shartsi Musherure stepped aside, Tumwebaze emerged with full backing from her supporters,” he said. He argued that Kutesa cannot claim to defend the NRM while backing independents. “That is double standards,” he said.
He urged Kutesa to convince Tumwebaze to stand down for Sodo Aine if unity is the goal.
Sembabule RDC Jane Francis Kagayi said district leaders have intensified campaign work. She said they now spend three days in office and the rest in the field. “We move village to village reminding people about the president’s achievements, especially security and peace over the last forty years,” she said.
She encouraged leaders to speak directly to voters about local projects and defend progress already made.
