St Francis Health Sciences Marks Patron Saint Feast Day at Namataba

St Francis Schools of Health Sciences has celebrated its Patron Saint’s Feast Day at its Namataba Campus, bringing together students, staff and clergy for a day of faith, reflection and fellowship.

The celebrations were led by Rev. Fr. John Chrysostom Maviiri, Parish Priest of Nkokonjeru Parish, who used his homily to encourage students preparing for careers in the health sector to embrace service, compassion and integrity.

Fr. Maviiri urged the students to draw inspiration from the values associated with St Francis of Assisi, particularly peace, selfless service, humility and concern for humanity.

He cautioned the students against making money their primary motivation, saying health care should be viewed as a calling to save and improve lives regardless of a patient’s social or economic status.

He encouraged the students to approach their future profession with compassion and dignity, reminding them that the quality of health care should not depend on a patient’s ability to pay.

The school’s Rector, Bbosa K. Peter, welcomed the clergy, students and staff to the celebrations, thanking them for turning up in large numbers to honour the institution’s Patron Saint.

Bbosa said St Francis Schools of Health Sciences seeks to combine academic training with discipline, humanity and moral integrity.

He also used the occasion to reassure parents and guardians about the institution’s payment arrangements, saying school fees can be paid in instalments to enable students from different financial backgrounds to pursue health sciences education.

Fr. Maviiri also appealed to parents in Mukono and neighbouring areas to consider enrolling their children at St Francis Schools of Health Sciences, citing the institution’s academic performance, discipline and faith-based approach to training health professionals.

The celebrations come as the Catholic Church and communities associated with St Francis of Assisi mark the 800th anniversary of his death in 1226, with the anniversary year running into 2026.

At Namataba, the occasion provided an opportunity for the institution to reaffirm its commitment to producing health workers equipped with professional skills while maintaining compassion and respect for human life.

The celebrations concluded with thanksgiving, cultural performances and fellowship among students, staff and guests.

The institution is currently admitting students for its health sciences programmes.
