Nsereko Basajjassubi Promises Electricity, Better Roads as He Campaigns for MP Seat

Nsereko Basajjasubi

The National Resistance Movement (NRM) candidate for the Nakaseke South Member of Parliament seat has promised to lobby for electricity extension and an improved road network as he kicks off his campaigns.

Nakaseke South is currently represented by Paulson Luttamaguzi Ssemakula, who recently crossed from the DP to the NUP.

The Electoral Commission nominated five candidates to contest for the Nakaseke South MP seat: Charles Nsereko Basajjassubi (NRM), incumbent MP Paulson Luttamaguzi Ssemakula (NUP), Stephen Mukibi (FDC), Ronald Kakooza, and Arthur Nkalubo, both Independent candidates.

The candidates hit the ground this week, covering one parish each day in Nakaseke District.

However, the fierce contest is between Nsereko and Luttamaguzi.

Nsereko has so far covered parishes including Sakabusolo in Kasangombe Sub-county, Kasagga in Nakaseke Sub-county, Kisimula in Kapeeka Sub-county, and Kirema in Semuto Sub-county.

Meanwhile, Luttamaguzi held a meeting with NUP coordinators across the constituency at Namusaale Trading Centre and later held rallies in Kapeeka Sub-county.

While meeting NUP coordinators, Luttamaguzi intensified personal attacks against Nsereko and his wife, Rose Namayanja, the Deputy Secretary General of the National Resistance Movement.

But while speaking to supporters in Sakabusolo Parish, Nsereko said Luttamaguzi can insult him throughout the campaign, but that will not stop him from defeating him in the upcoming general elections.

Nsereko instead asked residents of Sakabusolo to vote for him so he can improve the road network and lobby for electricity extension to the area.

“You are aware that I have been lobbying for electricity extension to 91 villages that have no power in our constituency. I want to inform you that next week we shall host the Energy Minister to launch a power extension to Sakabusolo Parish and others in Kasangombe Sub-county. For us, the focus is on lobbying for our area, not insulting,” Nsereko said.

Nsereko also promised residents of Kasangombe Sub-county that the Minister of Works and Transport will soon launch construction works on a section of the Lugogo–Kasana road, which has been impassable.

“We have wasted so much time during this term when our MP resorted to insulting every leader, including President Yoweri Museveni, instead of lobbying for the constituency. Now that we are winning this election, expect better services. Vote for me and President Yoweri Museveni if you want better services,” Nsereko Basajjassubi said.

Nsereko added that once elected, he will lobby for the construction of community access and feeder roads to ease the transport of agricultural produce.

He also noted that even before being elected, he has already lobbied for the construction of schools, health centers, and skilling programs for the youth in the constituency.

While meeting NRM mobilisers in Kapeeka Town Council, District Woman MP Sarah Najjuma blasted Luttamaguzi for hijacking projects and disrespecting other leaders in the district.

Earlier, Rosemary Namayanja, the Deputy Secretary General of the National Resistance Movement, dismissed Luttamaguzi as a joker and insisted that his days are numbered.

“Insulting me doesn’t take anything away from me. We shall continue to deliver key projects that help our people, and the time is now for voters to kick out Luttamaguzi over non-performance,” Namayanja said.

According to the campaign programme, Nsereko is expected to campaign in Kikandwa Parish in Semuto Sub-county on Monday.
