‎The child, a pupil of God Cares Nursery School in Top Class, was abducted on September 1, 2026, after unknown assailants reportedly broke into the home of her grandmother, Joyce Nanungi , 50, a resident of Namudali LC1, Kikandwa Sub-county in Mityana District.

‎

‎

‎According to police, the suspects abducted the girl and stole her grandmother’s mobile phone, which they later used to contact the family and demand Shillings four million in exchange for the child’s freedom.

‎

‎Lameck Kigozi, the Wamala Regional Police Spokesperson, said police were alerted at about 3:00am and immediately deployed teams to trace the kidnappers, rescue the child and apprehend those responsible.

‎

‎“A family member sent a million shillings to the captor as he continued demanding for the balance of three million shillings,” Kigozi said.

‎

‎Joint security teams, commanded by Mityana District Police Commander SP Tyson Rutambika and comprising the Wamala Region Flying Squad and internal security personnel, closely monitored developments as efforts to rescue the child intensified.

‎

‎Kigozi said the sustained pressure from security forces eventually forced the kidnapper to abandon the victim.

‎

‎“Fortunately, the captor succumbed to the pressure of trailing and at 21:00 hours, rode the victim on a motorcycle and dumped her at Mika in Wakiso District,” Kigozi said.

‎

‎Residents who found the child handed her over to police at Busunju Police Station, where she was examined and found to be in good health.

‎

‎The girl was later reunited with her grandmother, Nanungi Joyce.

‎

‎Police said investigations and efforts to identify and arrest the suspects are ongoing.

‎

‎Kigozi urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant, particularly during the school holiday period.

‎

‎“With such a crime appearing in our community at a time when children are for holidays, parents are advised to closely monitor the movement of their children,” he said.

‎

‎

‎In 2023, police recovered a five-year-old boy who had been kidnapped by unidentified people from Kinvuunikide Cell in Busimbi Division, Mityana District.

‎

‎The child was reportedly waylaid on his way from school and taken to an unknown location. The kidnappers later demanded Shs100 million in ransom from his parents.
