The leadership of the Entebbe Muslim Council and county Muslim leaders have reconciled following mediation by the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC), ending an administrative dispute that had threatened coordination of Muslim affairs in the area.
The reconciliation was reached during a meeting held at the UMSC headquarters in Old Kampala on Thursday and chaired by the UMSC Secretary General, Hajj Abbas Muluubya Ssekyanzi.
The meeting brought together Sheikh Farouk Ssendija, the Entebbe District Kadhi and members of the Entebbe Muslim Council leadership, as well as Sheikh Rajab Twesigye, the Entebbe County Sheikh, and members of the county leadership. It was convened to resolve administrative misunderstandings that had emerged between the two sides.
After deliberations, the parties unanimously agreed to reconcile, maintain the existing administrative arrangements that were in place before the dispute, and work together to strengthen coordination and cooperation in serving the Muslim community.
The meeting was attended by senior UMSC officials, including Deputy Secretary General for Finance and Administration Counsel Hajj Muhammad Aluma, Deputy Secretary General for Planning and Development Abdu-Razaq Arinda, and Secretary for Administration and Human Resource Yaziidi Katurebe.
Addressing the meeting, Muluubya outlined the history, structure and ongoing programmes of the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council. He urged both sides to follow the administrative procedures provided for under the UMSC Constitution and to resolve disagreements through the institution’s established channels.
Counsel Aluma and Arinda also called on the leaders to place unity above personal differences and work together in fulfilling their responsibilities to the Muslim community.
Both delegations were given an opportunity to present their concerns before the Secretary General guided them on mechanisms for consultation, dialogue and dispute resolution within the UMSC administrative framework.
Among the resolutions reached was a commitment by the Entebbe District Kadhi, the County Sheikh and the Office of the Secretary General to jointly address outstanding administrative issues affecting their working relationship.
The parties also agreed to establish and operate a joint bank account into which all revenue collected from tenants will be deposited, a move intended to improve transparency and accountability in the management of funds.
The leaders expressed appreciation to the Mufti of Uganda and the UMSC administration for their efforts to strengthen institutional harmony and improve the management of Muslim affairs across the country.
