Mityana -Police in Mityana Municipality have launched a manhunt for unknown assailants who attacked and fatally stabbed a woman at her home.
The deceased has been identified as Lydia Nansubuga aka madam, a resident of Bamunanika Cell, Katakala Ward, Busimbi Division in Mityana Municipality.
According to the Wamala Regional Police Spokesperson, Lameck Kigozi, Nansubuga was found at around 10:30 p.m. on July 11, 2026, lying in a pool of blood with multiple stab wounds to the neck inside her house.
Kigozi said the victim was discovered by a neighbour who had sent her child to buy groceries from Nansubuga’s retail shop.
When the child delayed returning, the neighbour followed and found Nansubuga’s seven-year-old daughter seated at the doorway.
”When asked where her mother was, the girl said she was sick inside the house. Moments later, the victim struggled to raise her voice and cried out, ‘Munyambe nfa’ (Help me, I’m dying),” Kigozi said.
The neighbour rushed into the house and found Nansubuga lying in a pool of blood, fighting for her life.
”Out of fear and shock, she alerted the LC I chairperson, who responded together with other residents. They attempted to rush the victim to Mityana General Hospital, but she died as they lifted her, despite trying to explain what had happened,” Kigozi added.
The LC I chairperson later reported the incident to police, prompting a homicide team from Mityana Central Police Station to visit and process the scene.
Police recovered a blood-stained knife, believed to have been used in the attack, approximately one metre from the scene. The body was taken to Mityana General Hospital for a postmortem examination.
Investigations are ongoing, and police have launched operations to identify and arrest those responsible
”We appeal to residents of Bamunanika Cell and anyone with information of evidential value to come forward and assist investigators,” Kigozi said.
