Victoria University has announced plans to introduce PhD programmes to enable students completing their master’s degrees to continue with doctoral studies at the institution.
The university’s Vice Chancellor, Dr Lawrence Muganga, made the announcement during the second day of the institution’s 10th graduation ceremony held at Speke Resort Convention Centre in Munyonyo, Kampala, on Tuesday, October 20, 2026.
Muganga said he was saddened whenever students completed their master’s degrees and left the university, noting that he still needed them at the institution.
A total of 76 students graduated with master’s degrees on Tuesday, as Victoria University concluded its two-day graduation ceremony held on October 19 and 20, during which approximately 2,600 students graduated.
Meanwhile, businessman Frank Gashumba has challenged job seekers and entrepreneurs to prioritise financial success, arguing that academic qualifications alone do not guarantee financial stability.
Speaking at the ceremony, Gashumba said it was frustrating for someone to pursue extensive education without earning money, arguing that a person with less education but financial success could be better off than someone with higher academic qualifications but no financial stability.
He also urged parents to enrol their children in reputable institutions, citing Victoria University as an example.
