Luwero – National Resistance Movement Deputy Secretary General Rose Namayanja Nsereko and Acting Minister of Education and Sports Dr. John Chrysostom Muyingo have called on party supporters to actively participate in the upcoming Local Council (LC) elections, describing village leadership as critical to the implementation of government programmes.
The village LC I Chairperson elections are scheduled for July 28, while elections for the Village Women’s Councils will be held on July 23.
On Friday, the NRM conducted village barazas across all 71,214 villages nationwide. The meetings were aimed at confirming party flag bearers, filling vacant party positions, and mobilising support ahead of the elections.
Namayanja attended a village baraza at Wampamba Zone in Wobulenzi Town Council, Luwero District, where she urged party supporters to embrace the elections, noting that LC I leaders play a vital role in implementing government programmes at the grassroots.
She also encouraged voters to elect leaders who are committed to development, arguing that village leadership has become increasingly important in monitoring the implementation of the Parish Development Model (PDM) and other government initiatives.
”The LC I Chairpersons are the leaders of the Parish Development Committees. If you vote for people who are not pro-development, then you will have frustrated the Parish Development Model yourselves,” Namayanja said.
After the Luwero meeting, Namayanja also addressed NRM supporters in Butikwa and Timuna villages in Nakaseke District.
Acting Minister of Education and Sports Dr. John Chrysostom Muyingo also attended the Wampamba village baraza, where he urged party supporters to vote for NRM flag bearers who would effectively implement the party’s manifesto.
”When you vote for NRM flag bearers, you are enabling better service delivery because they understand our ideology and will be able to lobby for your communities,” Muyingo said.
The NRM Chairperson for Wobulenzi Town Council, Yasin Ssegawa, welcomed Namayanja and Muyingo, saying their visit had energized party supporters ahead of the elections.
Ssegawa expressed confidence that the NRM would retain the LC I chairperson positions in the area and thanked the party leadership for its continued support.
”The NRM has done its part. It is now up to you, the supporters, to vote wisely so that you can benefit from government programmes,” Ssegawa said.
The NRM is expected to begin endorsing its confirmed flag bearers on Saturday ahead of official nominations scheduled for next week.
